I would like to mirror Annie's coemnmt and add a few things. 1. Ask your doctor what type of eczema your baby has. Many doctors just say eczema', but many forms of eczema exist, each with different causes. However, many babies with eczema have environment-based allergies. My niece has eczema and is allergic to milk, tomatoes, and citrus. Common allergies are milk, wheat and eggs. You may wish to test by omitting/focusing on certain foods from your diet and seeing if she gets better/worse.2. Try not to use anti-itch creams too often.Heavy use can cause an allergic reaction. Always ask your doctor before using a medication on your baby.3. Get rid of skin irritants: Detergents, dyes, perfumes, chemicals. These can be in soaps or detergents you use. I have eczema personally and use Dove or Aveeno soap, Dove or Head and Shoulders shampoo, and Kirkland Eco-friendly (uses no dyes or perfumes). Stay away from Tide laundry detergent and Pantene Pro-V. Be aware that if your baby is super sensitive, the shampoos and soaps from your shower may get on your baby's skin if she bathes where you shower.4. Keep your baby moisturized. When the baby is dry, she itches and damages the skin, making the eczema worse. To stop this cycle, use lotion. I recommend Vaseline (moisture locking) right after the bath and at least once per day. I use CeraVe, but I do not if CeraVe is baby safe. If you live in a dry climate, use a humidifier to keep the skin better moisturized.5. Keep your baby dry.If she is sucking her thumb, her eczema will be near unstoppable there. If she is wet a lot, you may see it flair up on her bottom. This goes for any other place that is wet a lot. If you live in a place that is muggy with water in the air, try a dehumidifier to keep your baby a bit more dry.6. Bathe your baby often. When you bathe her, you can put oatmeal and/or a cup of vinegar in the bath water. This helps soothe and clean the skin of your baby. (If you choose to use oatmeal, grind it in a blender and wrap it with cheesecloth. Soak it in the bath 30 min before putting your baby in it.) After the bath, make sure you lotion up your baby.
